Japanese Butterfly

Japanese Butterfly

The sound of a zen garden in autumn. Or: The tao of love set to music. "Japanese Butterfly" is the little white yang inside yin's sea of blackness, it's the soft light engulfing a black hole. Seemingly composed of ten miniature pieces, this is in truth a cohesive 45-minute walk through the all-ecompassing emptiness - and the silence between tracks is its natural breath. Instrumentation is scant and has been reduced to the absolute essentials: Brushes of bass, dabbers of piano, floating sounds and warm waves of flute. Just like in real life, emotions are not seperated into clear categories, but in constant flux, appearing simultaneously and seemlessly - which makes this album only the more striking. "Japanese Butterfly", more than 20 years after its innitial release, still has an instant appeal - and offers shimmering mysteries for those willing to dive deeper into its waters. A timeless classic.
