Alien

Do note: The title hints just as much at life forms from other planets as it refers to human estrangement: "One day soon, we will become aware of a new life form. It will not think like us. It will be different. It will be hard to accept. We will become aware of new ways of thought. Eventually our perception of life will change. The old ways will become alien." On the other hand, these warm, dreamy and unbent pieces feel familar right away. "Alien" is an oasis which invites listeners to strip themselves of all thoughts at its waters and spend some time contemplating nothing but what is in this very moment. Every minute detail becomes visible, as Steve's flute and Sax glides like wind over the waves, causing mellow ripples and keeping the music in motion. Soft Jazz in the desert heat. if you like. And "Goodbye" is a magnificent hymn and one of Steve's all-time signature tunes, just as instantly emotive as his classic "Captains of our fate".
